A massive quartz crystal + The EinScan PRO HD

“To put everything in balance is good, to put everything in harmony is better.”

——Victor Hugo——

Say Hello to Victor

Victor, not Victor Hugo, is a 4000 lbs white quartz crystal from Brazil. Victor is beautiful, mystical, asymmetrical, unbalanced and also massive!

Leerform, based in New York, delivers comprehensive design and crating services from their fully equipped woodworking and metal fabrication facility in Brooklyn, including crates, travel frames, casework, pedestals, plinths, mounts, and armatures. Additionally, they work closely with contractors, architects, and designers to build custom cabinetry, exhibit furniture, and architectural elements.

The Leerform Team has used the EinScan PRO HD to help design and create a perfectly sized custom stand to present Victor in all his glory!

Leeform also designed an outstanding and bespoke transport crate. The way was paved for Victor to shine his beauty in a harmonious arrangement thanks to the pin point measurements captured with Einscan Pro HD.

In this video @Leerform explains how they are using the EinScan Pro HD multi-functional 3D scanner to create custom display and crating solutions. This video is published by courtesy of Leerform. For more information on their services visit: www.leerform.com .

Leerform believes in preserving culture by protecting objects. Through collaboration, they provide creative solutions to the greater New York City arts community. They help clients connect with their audiences and engage with art and artefacts. Leeform is focused on serving museums, galleries, and individual artists by providing logistical and fabrication services for exhibits, travel, and storage.

Leerform used the EinScann PRO HD to capture high-resolution details and dimensional accuracy. Many museum objects present challenges for mount-making, displays, and custom crates. These challenges can be overcome with 3D scanning – an efficient and safe process that allows for less handling of an object than standard techniques. Scanning can be coupled with 3D printing, or CNC cutting, to make complex mounts, displays, and crate interiors simple and can accommodate different materials and coatings suitable for unique object surfaces.

Precise geometry measurement achieved with the Einscan Pro HD.

To create an attractive display and durable custom crate for transportation specifically tailored for Victor required the precise geometry measurement capturing ability achievable with the Einscan Pro HD.

The Leerform team achieved an outstanding design by using 3D scanning in two phases:

  1. Phase 1 Design of Victor´s Metal Mount

Phase 2 Design of Victor´s Display

Victor’s physical composition presents a host of challenges to overcome since scanners generally struggle to pick up transparent, shiny or black surfaces. The Leerform team used an opaque, self-dissolving sublimating film to perfectly capture the unique shapes of Victor and his mount.

Due to Victors size, the crystal was scanned in sections using marker reference points. The scan data files were then connected together in the EXScan Pro software (provided as standard with einscan 3D Scanners`0with the help of mapping technology.

For data economy, only the parts of Victor required to create the designs for his custom fabrications were scanned.

To design these items the scan files were imported into the Rhino Design Software. With a CNC machine the wood was then cut for Victor´s custom display and custom crate exactly fitting his specific contours. Now Victor is ready for safe travels and glorious presentations.

“3D scanning enables us to fit materials to object contours we were not able to with traditional methods. Additionally 3D scanning allows for ease of designing to an irregular object.”
